Lich Gate Concerts presents its summer concert on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 4 pm, in the air-conditioned sanctuary of Christ Trinity Church, 180 Main St., in Sheffield. 

Artistic Director Jorge Ávila has curated a brilliant program featuring works for String Quartet from the Classical and Romantic periods, including JOSEPH HAYDN’s String Quartet in G Major, Op. 15, No. 5 and ALEXANDER BORODIN’s String Quartet in D Major, No. 2.

Haydn, in addition to being known as “Father of the Symphony,” was pivotal in the evolution of chamber music, and also had the sobriquet “Father of the String Quartet,” having written almost 70 of them!

Borodin was one of the prominent 19th century Russian composers known as “The Five,” a group dedicated to composing a “uniquely Russian” kind of Classical music. (Others of “The Five” were Balakirev, Cui, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov.)
